Occam Group are looking for an experienced Software Safety Assurance professional with a strong foundation in UK defence and demonstrable track record of thought leadership and complex programme delivery. The successful candidate will lead Occam Group’s Software Safety Assurance capability and will have responsibility for the development of an in-house Software Safety Assurance Team. They will be integral in helping to shape a growing company. This role would suit an experienced Principal Consultant, or someone ready to take the next step up in progressing their career.
Day to day, you will work with clients providing specialist consultancy services and support business development activities. You will be responsible for developing our early careers team members’ skills and growing the Company’s programmable elements assurance capability. You will work from our offices, client sites and from home. To best support our clients, we sometimes need to travel; we take a flexible approach to meet both our staff and clients’ needs. Candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
- Salary: £75k – £95k per annum, depending on experience

Core Responsibilities
- Conducting Safety Assessments throughout the full lifecycle on software or programmable element intensive safety critical systems.
- Developing Functional Safety strategies across multiple domains and applications.
- Coaching of junior members of staff.
- Technical leadership on projects, tenders and quotations.
- Taking active steps to ensure customer satisfaction and obtain repeat business.
- Supporting recruitment, training and mentoring.
- Leadership of business winning activities, account management and growth.
- Supporting the definition and achievement of business objectives.
- Exploring prospects for alliances and partnerships to exploit new opportunities.
Required Experience
- Significant experience and knowledge of applying the following safety standards: IEC 61508, 62061, 61511, Def STAN 00-055, ARP 4754A, DO-178C or DO-254.
- Experience of working with systems and software engineering processes, techniques or languages.
- Experience within one or more of the following defence domains: Air; Land; Sea; Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives; Nuclear.
- Previous consultancy and business winning experience.
