Meeting the requirements of Building Regulations is critical area of compliance for construction works in the UK. For fire safety, this is often achieved through a fire strategy. Occam can work with your design teams to develop and inform the fire strategy across the RIBA stages of work, from Stages 0 to 7.

With a growing focus on the Golden Thread (maintaining fire safety records and standards across the building lifecycle), there is an increased demand for retrospective fire strategies, which set out the technical measures for meeting fire safety during operation. Once your building is operational, it is a legal requirement in the UK to have a documented fire risk assessment.

Occam can undertake fire risk assessments across all sectors, with recent experience in transport, residential, engineering facilities and educational facilities. We operate in high-secure and high-hazard environments such as secure manufacturing facilities and licensed nuclear sites 

Demonstrating that buildings are fire safety can be problematic – full size or scale testing is seldomly viable. Occam offer fire safety modelling services, which provide evidence of fire engineered solutions, using industry approved, verified and validated modelling software. Our use of Computational Fluid Dynamics and zone modelling helps to optimise fire engineered solutions and provides regulators with confidence that the proposed solution will operate as designed.

Fire safety doesn’t stop once the building is finished and the fire risk assessment is completed. Occam can provide ongoing support once the building is operational and can provide tailored fire safety support for individual projects.

Acting as a customer friend, Occam can provide consultancy services to ensure that measures that are being proposed for your workplace are suitable, and that you are getting value for money. In addition, fire safety engineering support and design can be provided for projects with turnkey needs.

Following the Manchester Arena Attack in 2017, the UK government has brought into force the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, also commonly referred to as Martyn’s Law, to improve protective security and organisational preparedness across the UK.
